EYEWITNESS, #92115-12

MOUSER's Review-3stars.  and that's only because the fight scene and the Quickening are really worth it. One of the classic Quickenings to be accurate. Tessa is an eyewitness to a murder...save for seeing the actual killing and she tries to convince the police that a murder really did occur. There are also many coincidences between the victim and Tessa for her to feel a kinship. Ok .....fine so far.....and Tessa is very strong as she follows leads to find out
who the murder victim really was. Then the murderer goes after Tessa and they discover it's an immortal. Now the story turns totally mundane when the police find the body and decide to take Tessa into protective custody and Duncan has to be the hero and come to Tessa's rescue. Why oh why did they change horses in midstream....certainly Duncan had to take on the evil immortal...this is Highlander after all....but Tessa falls right back to being the clinging female lead for the hero's arm. I give the  evil immie 3stars for being a real dipstick. But this ep is just another filler in the other aspects.

BASAXL's REVIEW-3 and a halfstars. Tessa's having a lovely art show when a lady quietly approches her close to the end, commenting on her work, and praising it.  Tessa feels a
bond with this woman, sensing they are very much alike.  She steps into another room for a few minutes, looking out the window.  She sees her new friend murdered.  She calls the police...who pats her on the head and tells her to run along.  I'm proud of Tessa in this ep, when she's strong, she's very strong.  I wish they'd have kept Tessa like this.  She doesn't give up, she is determined to find the killer.  My favourite scene in the show is at the end, when Mac asks for coffee, but he wants Tessa much much more, the little thing he does with his bottom lip is very tasty for the women viewers, very sexy, very sensual.  I really enjoyed this one.  It's not the best, but its a good one.  The villian is another immie who thinks mortal women are to be used and discarded when he gets tired of them, put this one in a box with Walter and throw them into a blender, that is if a ship with a big propeller isnt at hand.  Oh well Mac needs the quickening...grin!

FOR EVILS SAKE  #92117-14

MOUSER's Review-3stars.  This is a fairly good ep. Other than the standard  I hate mimes routine.....this one has something for all. Kuyler is a commendable villain and deserves a 3star rating.  He's really more annoying than effective .....doesn't handle a sword very well but he's got class and style. His bravado and intelligence are evident when Duncan faces him outside the liquor store is very well done.  I kinda liked him. For a villian he had class. For the romantics out there .....and tell me if that doesn't describe most all of the fans of the show........this is THE MEETING of Tessa and Duncan. Romantic and amusing is what I'd call thier first meeting.  No good shots of Duncan in any state of undress...sigh..but all in all definetly worth seeing.

BASAXL's Review-3 and a halfstars. Poor Kuyler all he ever wanted out of life was to be the best at something.  He tried running, but he was outrun, he had a lovely voice but not good enough for opera, he was smart, but lost at trivia too often... then he discovered that he was very clever at finding ways to assassinate people.  Dress as a mime or a clown, the victim relaxes and if he doesn't die from boredom watching Kuyler do all the tired old routines.  Kuyler uses a knife or gun and ola! Kuyler also has an expensive little habit, he loves absinthe.  It is a bitter green liqueur having the flavour of licorice and wormwood.  It is usually mixed with milk to make the poisonous drink more datable, and often causes
insanity among mortals before killing them.  Why do mortals want the stuff???? Why do they sniff glue????? but I digress......Kuyler likes the stuff and it costs even more than cocaine.....so assassin is a perfect career choice being that it is illegal also and pays very
well.  Did I also mention Kuyler is an immie?  He racks up an impressive body count, but makes one major mistake, he runs into Duncan and kills the man Duncan is protecting.  Duncan never forgets and the two play car and mouse through the centuries.  He even starts an assassin mime group.  I think Kuyler is one of the better villains, an original.....and totally void of compassion. I'd have given him four stars anyway...he earns the extra star for giving Duncan the chance to wack a mime.  Kuyler gets a 5star bastard rating.

FOR TOMORROW WE DIE, #92116-15

MOUSER's Review-4stars.  What is it about Xaviar that makes him such a memorable villian? He's witty, suave and classy. Ask any Highlander fan who thier favorite villians are and you will hear the name Xaviar mentioned. In this ep we meet him for the first and
fortunately not the last time. He has a very deadly run in with Duncan in which he loses his hand. But not a fatal fight. Good for us that someone saw what a useful and recurring role that he had. Never fear, he does return and that's good news for the show. 4stars for
Xaviar......he deserves it. This is one of the classic shows, don't ask me why....but it has that elusive quality about it that makes you want to watch it again.

THE BEAST BELOW, #92123-16

MOUSER's Review-1star.  and that's only  for  the shots of Duncan on his horse dressed in a kilt and leather. For some reason, seeing him dressed this way with his long hair (ok I know it's extensions but it still looks good) seems to evoke a response from me.  Droolable... definetly droolable. Unfortunately, thats about all this ep has goin for it. The main adversary is Ursa. He's not a villian, just a simple fellow looking for a few gentle things in life. Another stock Quasimodoesque character. Don't be in a hurry to see this Phantom Hunchback of Notre Dame Opera take off. It's just not worth the watching.

BASAXL's Review-3stars.  Take the Hunchback cross him with the Phantom (of the opera) and make him immortal.  Throw in a wicked femme Fatale who's not above using his
admiration and love for her own selfish means and you have The Beast Below.  I really enjoyed this episode and Ursa came across as a simple but lovable charactor.  Duncan's compassion really moved me.  More so when I found out what really happened behind the scenes.  Want to know just how fine an actor Adrian Paul is???????  Try facing an huge actor who's getting drunker every scene, forgetting the choreographed fight scenes and decides he might really kick the handsome young star's ass for g.p. Adrian Paul had to be on his toes for this episode and still make it look good. (This is why there is a no drinking rule on the set now.Not even a glass of wine with lunch.)  Adrian Paul had to be ready for anything during the fight scenes, he was in a very dangerous situtation, but he carried on and in the process showed us how really well he handles a blade, using defence tactics
only, while carring his role and making the acting look natural.  He also had to seem to really care for Ursa and not want any harm befall the lumbering giant.  In reality he showed great restraint in not hacking the intoxicated lout to bits and throwing him off the set. Needless to say we won't see Ursa again on the series.  Its a real shame, Ursa was a good charactor and altho drunk, the actor did a fine job in staggering thru the role in most of the scenes. Lets face it folks...the besotted look was real...(grin) The episode is not a great one but its not bad either. It is worth more than one watch.  I go back from time to time and watch it again.  I  like the music and the opening number a lot.  Its also nice to see Richie with a nice wholesome girl for a change.  Too bad the relationship wasn't developed farther.  I liked her.  The villianess was a four star bitch.  She used her talent and wiles to control and Use Ursa.  Good job my dear.

SAVING GRACE, #92120-17

MOUSER's Review- 4stars.  Even Immortals can be stalked. This is the story of how one very defenseless immortal...Grace...is being hounded by a former lover....also immortal ...named Carlos. Duncan, of course has to get in the middle and take care of Carlos for Grace.  All right I'll suspend my suspicions about Grace and how she's even managed to live this long without another immortal to protect her.  Talk about your helpless woman syndrome. This is a very good story about obsessive love. Other than it has to deal with immortals and a very nicely played evil immie too, this story could come straight from the daily headlines in any newspaper. It might have even come down to Carlos killing Grace to keep her from leaving him again. Sorry, but I just don't understand why some people seem to think that they can own another person. 4stars to Carlos for being very convincing as the possessive ex and a dog to anyone who thinks that this is the way to make someone love you.

BASAXL's Review- 3and a halfstars.  What a bummer, sigh, women still not safe from stalkers, even if they are immortal.  When will it stop.  Grace made the mistake of getting
involved with Carlos and he's been stalking her ever since, this time he kills her mortal lover, and frames her for the murder.  He's hoping she will turn to him in order to escape from the police.  Silly boy!  She knows Duncan and had a brief fling with him..... flashback... Our noble hero is cantering along minding his own business when he hears a woman scream, damsels in distress are always our hero's business... so he thunders to the rescue.  Sword drawn, he kicks the door down to one of the most terrifying sights he's ever beheld....it's the immortal Grace and she's not the one screaming, it's the woman he sees
who's baby she's delivering.  This is one of my favourite scenes, the look on Mr Macleod's face says it all, I almost fell out of my chair.  He and Grace develop a warm relationship.  I like Grace,  she is the very personification of her name,  calm, gentle, and quietly serene.  Grace is not Duncan's type and  they drift apart, Duncan to save the world andGrace, into the arms of Carlos, a handsome and wealthy plantation owner.  It's not surprising that Grace turns to Duncan for help, and it's not surprising that she still loves Duncan.  Tessa handles this beautifully, with great tact and compassion.  Class meets class.  I also really enjoyed the eps where Duncan relished taking out the bad guy.  I like the tiger on the prowl, laughing with glee as he glories in the fight  eager to feast on a tasty  little  quickening.  Carlos is worth three and one half stars  due to Gorges Corraface. He plays a stalker masterfully, with the jaunty arrogance and pride of a man that sees women as no more than property.  My bastard rating is 3 and a halfstars.

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER, #92124-19

MOUSER's Review- 3stars.  This is a very good ep. Another ambiguous villain from Duncan's past, one Gabriel Pittoine {sp?) returns and proves to be very dangerous to of all folks Richie.  Gabriel is a fashion designer and supposedly very good at it....well he's been doing it for centuries after all. He also has a weak spot for beautiful things. I liked this one as it's one of the first to pose the former friend gone bad story and it does it so well. Until he's given proof of Gabriel's guilt and must protect a mortal from him, you get the feeling that Duncan doesn't want to get involved in this one. Two scene's of note in this one.....the flashback to Duncan's night with a duchess...I like the clothes he was and was not wearing.......and the end of the quickening when he's grieving for having to kill a once good friend. Gabriel gets a solid 4stars for being a truly good adversary for Duncan and for giving Richie a bad time. Ladies check out this ep......there's a few goodies hidden if you know when and where to look. (WEG)

BASAXL's Review- 3stars. Duncan, for such a moral man, you ran with a lot of scuzzballs.  Gabriel is a top fashion designer now and he invites Duncan to the show.  Richie is also impressed when the top model turns out to be a young lady he met in a restaurant earlier.  She informs Richie its her lucky break, Gabe selected her when her roommate who was the real star was called out of town.  Excuse me???????  This is a top designer and one of the premier shows of the year and she leaves town..... what is wrong with this picture???  She's either very naive or is meeting me at two pm today to buy the Eiffel tower.  Anyway her roommate turns up murdered... surprise!!!!!!  The rest you can write...  The acting is up to par and the villain is a 2stars (the honour of which he'll have to share with a clone named Thorne)  It's not a bad ep but far from the powerful episodes to come later.  The one scene that captured my attention and raised this to a three star was the scene with the duchess and the third star of the show...  Duncan's pants.Check them out when he enters the room to face Gabe just after leaving the duchess's bed.  ggrrrroowwlll!!!!!!!!

AVENGING ANGEL, #92122-20

MOUSER's Review- 2stars.  This is not one of my fav eps. I'll be honest....the villian in this one is simply a madman and I found him to be extremely annoying. If that was the effect they wanted....well then it was a superb job, if not then this actor made you wanna whack
him just to shut him up. Ranting and raving and eating up the scenery is the norm here. He only gets 2stars....more aggravating and no match for Duncan even on his more lucid days. My surprise in this ep was that they took Tessa off her pedestal for a minute and made her
into a true character. Her condemation of her former friend for becoming a hooker is one of the few times shes either not one dimensional or busy telling Duncan ...."I'm scared". Seems to me that she knew what Duncan is and could either accept the danger or get
out. Ok, I know that I'm ragging on her again and I'll quit.  If you want an hour of someone ranting and raving see this ep..otherwise give it a miss.

NOWHERE TO RUN, #92125-21 (due to technical problems, this one doesn't exist)

THE HUNTERS, #92126-22

MOUSER's Review-5stars.  The Hunters........Five star ep for sure here folks. The changing of Highlander from a show about Immortals to a show about Watchers and Immortals. This is one of the mile stone shows in the series. Here we meet Horton the Horrible and his henchmen. Ahhhhhh very few have ever surpassed Horton as a nemesis for our Hero. This one has it all...except maybe for Joe and Methos. The death of Darius is a potent scene....tho one does get a little jumpy about the 4th or 5th time after that of seeing the scene. Watching poor Duncan grieving for his lost friend.....well I for one am glad of the presence of Fitzcarin. Ahhhhh Fitz you were so much fun. He is one of the more enjoyable characters to appear in the series. A solid 5stars for Horton here. The beginning of an excellent career of tormenting Duncan and showing us all the stupidity of bigotry.

BASAXL's REVIEW-5stars.

Ah Fitz, one of my favourite immies comes to visit Duncan, he's such a lovable charactor and so much fun.  Too bad this ep isn't the same.  It is soooooo hard for me to review this one.  I really loved Darius, and seeing him "die" again reopens old half healed wounds. If you are into hand to hand combat, this is right up your alley.  The fight scenes are very well done.  This is the ep where Horton first raises his evil head and his nasty little group of immie eradicators come to light.  It seems the watchers have a splinter group who's idea of a good time is to go around killing the immortals they were only supposed to be watching and recording.  The Hunter's set up the introductions to the Watchers ( you know..the ones who never interfere ok.......I've given  the people who are regular viewers a few minutes to
quit laughing here.....) and with this ep...opens a whole new can of worms.  The Immortals are not only hunting each other now but are being hunted by a bunch of murderous mortals.  Duncan trys to tell them he is not the ememy but fanatics do not listen, they never have and never will.  Duncan proves to be not only more humane than the men he's up against but much the better man... intensifying Horton's hatred.  Horton will reign as a superbastard for all time in my book.  I only wish he'd have met up with the Dark Duncan just once before he took a dip in the holy hot tub.  The whole cast again rises to the occasion.Eps like this prove what the show is capable of rising to.  My bastard rating is 5 stars.
