Spencer's
ChroniclesWritten by Taboo MacFru
Chapter 2
A well built man, probably early 30's, with tan skin, long dark hair tied back in a ponytail and deepset brown eyes closed the door behind him.
He paused, taking in the sight of Joe sitting at the bar, lighting a cigarette for a redheaded woman sitting next to him. He felt a light buzzing sensation. Joe looked over and smiling, waved the man over.
As he approached Joe and Spencer the sensation grew ever stronger.
Joe shook the man's hand and introduced him, "Spencer Forbes, may I
present Duncan MacLeod?"
Spencer extended her hand to Duncan and he lightly grasped her
fingers and gently rotated her hand so that he could kiss the back of it.
Her smile increased in width and intensity. "Charming, Mr. MacLeod.
You are absolutey charming."
Releasing her hand and rising from his half bow, Duncan returned the
smile and in a barely detectable burr observed, "With a name like that and
that glorious hair there must be a strong Scots branch in your family
tree."
Spencer nodded and answered, "On my father's side, my mother's
family is all Irish."
Duncan laughed merrily, "I'll bet your childhood wasn't dull!"
Spencer rejoined, "Anything but dull. However it has caused one
problem...."
"That is......?" Joe asked..
"I can't decide which I like better, Bushmill's or Glenlivet. So I usually
wind up drinking Tequila."
"Tequila?" Joe marvelled.
"Yes, Tequila. I was born and raised in Texas. It's written in stone
somewhere around Austin that Texans have to like Tequila."
Joe quipped, "So that's where that accent comes from."
"Accent? Waht accent?" Spencer asked with wide-eyed innocence, "I
don't have an accent. Now those folks in Georgia, they have accents."
They all llaughed heartily. Spencer added, "Back in college, when i was
a Drama major, they coached most of my accent away. But I revert to my
Mother-tongue at the strangest times."
Duncan responded with a strong burr, "I knae wha' ya' mean."
After another shared chuckle, Joe explained why Spencer was there.
Duncan told Spencer that he owned a Martial Arts dojo in the
neighborhood. And then asked "What can Joe and I do to help?"
"Well, I was about to explain that to Joe," Spencer started, when she
stopped because the door opened yet again.Duncan felt a buzzing similar to that he felt entering Spencer's
presence, but this was much more intense. He turned to face the new
customer and instantly recognized his friend, and Joe's friend, too, Adam
Pierson. Spencer saw a tall, lean, dark haired man with the most
incredibly beautiful eyes she had ever seen. As Joe and Duncan rose
from their seats to greet this gorgeous stranger, Spencer took a deep
breath to compose herself.
As Adam arrived at the bar, Joe and Duncan greeted him warmly. They
shook hands and then Joe turned to Spencer, "May I introduce Adam
Pierson?"
Spencer once again extended her hand and smiled . Adam, as Duncan
before had done ,grasped her fingers and bowed his head to kiss her
hand, but his grasp was firmer and his lips lingered longer on her hand.
He had failed to notice the buzzing attributable to her because of Duncan's presence. As soon as he touched her, though, his keen senses alerted him to her specialness. As he straightened his back he stared deeply into her eyes, searching for some awareness on her part. There was none. Instead he saw a beautiful woman blushing furiously.
"Ah, I'm Spencer Forbes, Mr. Pierson," she finally managed to utter. She turned her head to focus on Joe, "You certainly have old-fashioned friends, Joe. I don't remember the last time my hand was kissed by two such handsome men in such a short period of time."
Joe grinned at the realization that here was a woman possessed not
only of intelligence, beauty, charm and commitment, but a large measure
of moxie . She should be able to hold her own in any conversation with
these two. Joe explained Spencer's mission to Adam and that she was
just about to explain to them how they could help when he came into the
bar.
"Then please, excuse my interruption, and tell us how we can help."
Adam urged her.
Joe and Duncan, spewed coffee in unison. To hear cynical Adam offer
his assistance to a virtual, albeit lovely, stranger, was first shocking, then
amusing to the pair. It occurred to them that their usually reticient friend
had definite ulterior motives behind this seemingly altruistic offer.
"What's so funny?" Spencer asked with both palms up , shrugging her
shoulders.
Glowering at his two laughing friends, they managed to contain their
laughter and Adam turned his full attention to Spencer, as he moved
toposition himself between her and Duncan. "Nothing's funny, these two
are sharing a private joke at my expense. Please tell us what we can do."
"Well, I'd love to, but I'm afraid the Happy Hour crowd will be here
soon. And I need to call my office. " Spencer replied ruefully.
"No problem, " Joe offered, "these two always come in early, my real
customers won't be here for at least 1/2 an hour , and you can use the
phone in my office."
While Joe escorted Spencer to his office, Adam turned to Duncan and
asked, " Does she know?"
"That she's an immortal, like us? No, I don't think she does," replied
Duncan.
"Interesting dilemma, don't you think? " inquired Adam. " I mean, do
we tell her?, do we follow her?, do we tell Joe?, or do we just let her go
on with her merry, unaware existence and hope for the best?"
"I think we should listen to her idea for helping the kids, and I'll get to
know her, maybe I'll ask her out to dinner later......" Duncan began.
" The Bloody hell you say," Adam protested as Joe returned to the bar,
"If either of us is going to invite her to dinner, it's bloody well going to be
me!"
"Keep your voice down, Adam, she'll hear you," Joe warned. "Besides,
how do you know she's not involved with someone, or that I've already
got a date with her?" Joe grinned at this last, and laughed at the
crestfallen expression on Adam's face as he considered these
possibilities. Taking pity on his friend, Joe assured him that he had not
invited Spencer anywhere.
"But what if she's seeing someone else?" Adam responded.
"Then, you idiot, you put on your most charming smile, listen intently
to her propositions for the kids, and then invite her to discuss it in more
detail with you and your good friend Duncan over dinner," answered
Duncan, grinning devilishly.
Spencer returned at that moment, cutting off further discussion. She
proposed that Joe allow the bar to be used as an alternate testing and
counseling site one afternoon each week. "I'll bring all the supplies, and a
nurse to draw blood, and we'll be out of here by 4:30pm, and not leave a
trace. Your customers won't know we were here, there's absolutely no
risk of infection and it'll just take you a few hours. Once you get to know
me well enough to trust me, you won't even have to stay. "
"That sounds reasonable enough," Joe answered, "how soon would
you want to start?"
Smiling broadly, Spencer thought aloud,"Let's see, print the flyers
tomorrow, distribute them tomorrow night and several nights after that
and," looking up at Joe, "how about a week from today @ noon?"
"Works for me," Joe answered.
"What about the dojo,Spencer? Could that also be used as a site?"
asked Duncan.
"Absolutely, Duncan. We need a block of time in the evening. Could
we have the dojo one night a week from say 8 'til midnight?"
Nodding, Duncan agreed, "I could do that. If you're here on Tuesdays,
how about Thursdays at the dojo?"
"That would be great, thanks" Spencer replied while slipping off her
stool. She hugged Joe first, then skirting Adam, she gave Duncan a hug
as well. "You are both so generous, you just don't know what this means
to me. I'm used to having to beg and wheedle and guilt business owners
into cooperating. I want to know where ya'll are hiding your wings and
halos. You are my personal angels. A thousand sincere thanks. Your
karma just got a huge credit in my opinion." Finished gushing over the
two now glowing men, she turned to Adam, "and you, Mr. Pierson,
whatever will I do with you?"
"Well, if you don't have other plans for this evening, why don't we
discuss that over dinner?" Adam suggested.
Spencer accepted, saying,"What a wonderful idea! I'm starved! I
skipped lunch to read some reports and then I was making the rounds of
businesses all afternoon. Plus, I'm so new here I haven't had much time
to scout out the local restaurants. Do you have a particular place in
mind?"
"Depends on what type of food you'd like. Any preferences?" he
asked.
"Well, I like just about everything but Vietnamese food. I really miss
Tex-Mex though. Is there by any chance a good Mexican food restaurant?"
"As a matter of fact, I like Tex-Mex, too. And I just happen to know a
little place off Main. They have delicious guacamole, and they keep the
Dos Equis on ice. Shall we?" Adam offered his arm.
Spencer took his arm, and they began to walk out. She turned her
head over her shoulder to thank Joe and Duncan yet again, and to blow
them a kiss goodbye.
