The Princess
&
The Warrior

"Follow me, Princess, and stay close you have no idea the dangers out here."
Ming tapped one ink black paw impatiently.  "BC, I can take care of myself.  We’re only in the garden."
BC sighed and looked back at the female kitten behind him.

Both kittens were solid black with not a hint of white.  BC was somewhat larger and his eyes were blue compared to Ming’s green.  Other than that they were identical.

"I know that."  BC sounded exasperated. "You’re supposed to be a Princess and I’m the Warrior.  This is not the Garden.  It’s a dangerous forest."  Ming giggled. "I forgot.  I’ll do better.  I promise."

BC turned around and began to walk again.  "We have to be careful.  At any moment a -"   BC leaped suddenly towards a large furry shape in the bushes. "I’ll save you, Princess!"
"Get him, BC!  Rip his head off!"  Ming watched eagerly as BC and the large creature fought.  She looked around, guilty.  "I mean, save me brave warrior!"
BC ripped the head off the large creature and lay panting next to it.  Ming ran to him and gently poked the still creature with her paw.  It did not move.

"BC?  Ming?  Are you out here?"  Flo’s voice came from a few feet away. Ming and BC jumped up and ran toward her.  "Oh there you are.  What are you up to?"
"Us?  Nothing.  What makes you think we’re up to something?"  BC asked her nervously.

Flo’s eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms as she regarded the two kittens.  "Well, I didn’t think you were up to anything until just now. What have you done?"
The kittens squirmed uncomfortably.  A patch of brown fur caught Flo’s eye and she bent to pick it up.  She carefully turned the bodiless head of a teddy bear over in her hand.

"Would one of  you like to explain to me how Nikki’s teddy bear lost its’ body?"   Flo looked from one kitten to the other.  Ming and BC looked at their paws. "No answer?  Well, I guess you could explain it to Nikki."

Ming and BC’s heads jerked up quickly.  Neither of them wanted to explain to Nikki what they had done to her bear.
"It’s my fault."  BC mumbled.  "We were just playing."
"It was an accident."  Ming added.  "We got carried away.  I was a Princess and Ming was a Warrior.  He was protecting me from the monster."

Flo’s lips twitched as she tried to suppress a smile.  "I see.  Well, we better find out if anyone at the Castle can reattach the bear’s head to his body before Nikki gets back."
Flo rummaged in the bushes for the body.  When she found it the three of them headed back into the Castle.  The kittens ran ahead, happily.  Flo followed them, grinning at their exuberance.
