-III-

(It is hours later.  Duncan is again seated in Connor's living room, with a Scotch.  He looks up as Siobhan enters.  He scowls at her.  She sighs and walks over to sit next to him.  He moves to stand up and she puts a hand on his arm.)

Siobhan: Wait.  Please.  I'd like to talk to you.

Duncan:  I don't see what we have to talk about. (He remains seated,   though.)

Siobhan: I understand why you would believe what you do.  The evidence is there, isn't it?
(Duncan does not respond.)  On the other hand, it could still be faked.  Duncan, Amanda
was my friend.  She was like a sister to me.  Shannon, I can't even begin to describe what
she means to me.  When my mother died, (Siobhan pauses, swallows, then continues.)
when Mama died Shannon saved my sanity, my life, and she gave me back my father.

Duncan: (Quietly) Amanda never mentioned you.

Siobhan: No, she wouldn't have.(smiles) 'A girl has to have some secrets.' she used to say.  I
didn't know about you for a long time.  I think her feelings for you made her nervous.  In the
end, though, I know that you gave her what she needed most.  You held her when she was
there and let her go when the time came.  You loved her for exactly who she was.  Amanda.
        Nothing more, nothing less.

Duncan: (Jumps up, paces) That doesn't prove you didn't kill them.

Siobhan: No, it doesn't.  I have no proof but my word.  I can't even prove where I've been the
last while.  I've been hunting and I don't exactly document that.

Duncan: Hunting?

Siobhan: An Immortal who got his kicks out of tormenting his wife and kids.  The police won't
help, because he's dead as far as they're concerned.

Duncan: Why did you come back?  Did you find him?

Siobhan: No, he led me back here.  I needed a good night's sleep so I thought I'd crash here.  I
didn't expect to find anyone here but Connor.  I certainly didn't expect to find myself at the
wrong end of your sword. (quietly) Or that my friends were being murdered.

Duncan: Methos told you everything? (Siobhan nods. Duncan shakes his head.)  I still can't grasp
that.  Methos a father.  Why didn't he ever talk about you?

Siobhan: (Stands up, rubbing her arms.) Kronos, at first. (Duncan is shocked.) Yes, I know
about the Horsemen.  Da felt I needed to be forewarned.   Can you imagine what Kronos
might have done if he had known about me?

Duncan: He would have used you against Methos.  Kronos is dead.  Why did he never tell me?

Siobhan: (shrugs)  Force of habit.  He's been protecting me for 500 hundred years now.

Duncan: If what you say is true, what do you suggest we do now?

Siobhan:  (Fiercely)  Find the...person who is using me to get to my friends...And carve his or
        her heart out.

Duncan: Any idea who that might be?  Who hates you that much?

Siobhan: (shakes her head)  The only one I can think of has been dead for over two hundred
years.  I don't have that many enemies.  I'll keep thinking about it.

Duncan: What about this Immortal you were hunting?

Siobhan: No, he likely hates me but he'd have no idea who I was.  Certainly wouldn't be able to
connect me to Amanda and Shannon.  Besides, he's more in to tormenting those who can't
fight back.  Most of them are.  (quietly)  Mama's first husband was like that.

Duncan: Was he the father of her baby? (Siobhan nods.)  How did she end up married to Methos
        then?

Siobhan: They weren't really married then. My Mother was born Brenna MacGregor.  She was
married to Ian Frazier. (Duncan's eyes widen slightly.) Yes, Connor was slightly
acquainted with his brother, Murdoch.  One of good old Ian's past times was beating my
mother.  He died, though.  Mama went home to her father.  Then she discovered she was
pregnant.  Her father wasn't stupid.  There was no way he was sending her back there.  Da
had been staying with them for some time.  The Laird asked him to take Mama and hide
her.  It was Da's idea they pretend to be married.  Somewhere along the way they fell in
        love.

Duncan: The Fraziers never knew?

Siobhan: Da wasn't stupid either.  He sent that poor little boy back to them.  Told them twins
had been born but the boy had died.  That the girl would be sent to them as soon as she
was old enough to travel.  It wasn't long before he got a message back saying they had no
        interest in the girl.

Duncan: So they married and raised you.

Siobhan: (nods, light in her eyes)  They were wonderful together.  They adored each other, and
me.  It was a very happy household, made even brighter by frequent visits from Ramirez
and Shannon.(The light dies in her eyes and she sits on the couch running her hands
through her hair. Duncan sits next to her.)  Do you think they knew?  Amanda and Shannon?
That they knew it wasn't really me?

(Duncan gently tilts her face up to look at him.  Her tear filled eyes meet his and there is a pull.  It is magnetic and overwhelming.  He lowers his mouth to hers.  The kiss is gentle at first, then more passionate, demanding.  Duncan breaks away suddenly and jumps up from the couch.)

Duncan: I'm, I'm sorry.  That should never have happened.  (He turns and runs out of the room.)

Siobhan: (Sits silently for a minute.) Yep, that's exactly what every girl wants to hear after a
handsome man kisses her. (She sighs and flops back against the couch pillows.)

-IV-

(The next morning just after dawn in front of Connor's.  Siobhan pulls up to the curb in her convertible.  She gets out holding a knap sac.  She pauses as the buzz hits her and Duncan jogs up.)

Duncan: Umm, morning.

Siobhan: Morning. (Slings knapsac over her shoulder.)

Duncan: Did you go get some stuff?

Siobhan: Yep.  I can't live in Connor's clothes.

Duncan: Siobhan, about last night..

(They both stop as another buzz hits them.  Siobhan turns and spots the other Immortal first.  He is tall and handsome, dressed in a tailored suit.  Siobhan pales and remembers.)

Brenna and Siobhan descend the stairs of a huge mansion that glitters against the night sky.  They are dressed in elegant silk gowns, their hair beautifully styled.  A carriage complete with footmen is waiting for them.
"My dear, Madame Dupres, surely you and your lovely daughter aren't leaving already?"  Siobhan and Brenna turn to see Jacques Duval standing on the stairs.  He is the Immortal on the street at Connor's.
"Yes, Monsieur Duval, it appears we are."  Brenna turns and continues down the stairs.
Duval moves to intercept them at the carriage.  "The ball just will not be the same with out your presence."
Brenna motions for Siobhan to enter the carriage. "I am sure that you will make do, Monsieur Duval.  My daughter and I are returning home as my husband will be back from his trip."
Duval smiles.  It makes Brenna feel cold. "I had heard that he would not be back for several days.  I am glad that my information was mistaken."
Brenna climbs into the carriage.  Duval shuts the door.  He smiles at both women. "I hope you have an interesting drive."  He steps back as the carriage moves away.  Brenna breathes a sigh of relief.
"Mama?" Brenna looks at Siobhan. "I don't trust him."

Duncan: Siobhan?(Puts a concerned hand on Siobhan's arm.) Who is it?

Siobhan: Duval. (trembling)  He's supposed to be dead.

Duval: (smiling) My dear Siobhan.  It's been so long.

Siobhan: Get away from me.

Duval: Siobhan, that really isn't polite.  Introduce me to your friend.  (Siobhan glares at him.
He holds a hand out to Duncan, who ignores it. He pulls it back.)  I am Jacques Duval.
Siobhan and I used to be quite close.  You must be Duncan Macleod.

Duncan: I think you should leave.  Now. (He puts both hands on Siobhan's shoulders.)

Duval: I'm surprised, Macleod, that you would take your cousin's leavings.  But then,
considering who your last lover was, maybe you like your women used.

(Duncan tenses and releasing Siobhan, moves forward.  Siobhan grips his forearms with both hands.)

Siobhan: Don't.  It's what he wants.

Duval: (smiles)  Yes, do control yourself, Macleod.  There are so many things I want...and I
will get them.  (His eyes narrowed at Siobhan.) We will destroy you.  The nun and the
thief were only the beginning.  We will control the world.

Duncan: We? Who are we?

(Duval smiles again.  The street is waking, people leaving their homes.)

Duval: We are your doom.  We will rule!  The Horsemen ride again!  (He turns and walks
away. Siobhan and Duncan watch him go.  Siobhan goes weak, pressing back against
        Duncan.)

Duncan: (Quietly) It'll be okay.

Siobhan: No, no, it won't be okay.  He's supposed to be dead.  He should be dead.

Duncan: Let's get you inside. (He almost carries Siobhan in to Connor's shop.  Inside he seats
her on an antique chair and crouches in front of her.) Tell me. (She shakes her head.
Duncan squeezes both her hands with one of his and lays the other gently on her cheek.)
It's okay.  I won't let him hurt you.

Siobhan: It's too late for that. (She drifts into memory.)

Siobhan jerks back to life staring at the sky and treetops.  Her ballgown is torn and bloody. She starts to tremble and shake, tears slipping from her eyes.  She turns her head to see Brenna next to her.  Brenna's ballgown is also torn and bloody.  She is dead.
"No, Mama!"  Siobhan scrambles over to her.  "Mama, please!  Wake up!  Mama!"  Siobhan pulls on the bodice of Brenna'a dress, sobbing.  "Mama!"
Siobhan cries out in pain and presses both hands to her head.  Horses carrying Methos and Ramirez burst through the trees.  They dismount quickly.  Siobhan looks up and sees them.
"I-I couldn't stop them.  I tried, Daddy."  She is hysterical.  Methos pulls her into his arms and presses her face into his shoulder.  "I tried.  There were...I couldn't...so many."
Methos stares at Brenna, holding his daughter tightly.  Ramirez covers Brenna with his cloak and gently closes her eyes.

(Back in Connor's shop Siobhan is trembling, tears sliding down her cheeks.  Duncan is horrified.)

Siobhan: They raped me first so Mama would know.  When I died, they..they..I woke up and
could hear her screaming.  When she died, they came back to me.  Oh, God, he's supposed
to be dead.  Why isn't he dead?

(Duncan pulls her into his arms, stroking her hair.  He moves so that he is now in the chair with her in his lap.  She sobs into his shoulder.)

Siobhan: (pulls back slightly wiping tears from her eyes.) I thought I had dealt with this.  I'm
        sorry.

Duncan: (softly)  No need to be sorry.  I imagine it was a shock to see him.

Siobhan: Ha.  That would be putting it mildly.  I think I've got a grip on it now.

(Siobhan is looking at Duncan's face.  She gently runs a finger along his jawline.  He looks directly into her eyes.  The pull is there again.  Their lips meet and the kiss is soft.  They pull apart, staring into each other's eyes.)

Duncan: I-

Siobhan: If you apologize again, I don't think I could take it.

Duncan: No, I wasn't going to apologize.

Siobhan: Good.

(Their lips meet again, more passionate this time.)

Methos: (snarling)  Get your hands off of her.

(Duncan jumps up so fast, Siobhan slides to the floor.  She is on her feet quickly, though.  Methos looks at her tear-stained face and curses.  His sword is out.  He swings at Duncan who jumps out of the way.)

Methos:   You bastard!  (They move around the shop, Methos swinging, Duncan trying to avoid
        the sword.)

Duncan: Methos, you don't understand.

Methos: You're right.  I don't understand.  You're supposed to be my friend.

Connor: Would you two be careful! This stuff is expensive AND irreplacable!

Duncan: (Ducking again.) Me?  I'm not the one with a sword.

(Siobhan manages to get in front of Methos.  She grabs his sword arm with both hands.)

Siobhan: Stop it, Daddy.  Duncan isn't the problem!  (Methos looks down at her.  Siobhan
        continues softly.) Duval is.

Methos: Duval?  He's dead. (Siobhan shakes her head.) He's not.  He was here. (Siobhan nods.)
        Did he hurt you?

Siobhan: No, just scared me.  Duncan was there.

(Methos wraps his free arm around Siobhan and pulls her close.  He presses his lips to her hair.)

Methos:  (Whispers)I'm sorry.

-V-

(Connor's loft.  Duncan enters the living room where the others are seated.  He is freshly showered and changed.)

Connor: So why did you think he was dead?

Methos: A Watcher reported a fight between Duval and another Immortal.  He didn't get close
enough to see the fight but saw the quickening.  Since his Immortal was still alive and
Duval had disappeared, it was assumed Duval had lost.

Siobhan: It's been two hundred years.  Where has he been for two hundred years?

(Duncan sits next to Siobhan.  Methos' eyes narrow.)

Duncan: Did you tell them what he said?

Siobhan: No, we were just telling Connor who he is.

Methos: What did he say?

(There is silence.)

Siobhan: He said 'The Horsemen ride again.'

Methos: That's not possible.  The Horsemen are all dead.

Duncan: All but you.  Whomever Duval is talking about are probably just using the legend for
        their own reasons.

Connor: Is it possible that Kronos had a student? (Siobhan and Duncan stare at him in
disbelief.  He laughs.)  What, I live under a rock?  I know who the Horsemen are.

Duncan: Why didn't you ever warn me?

Connor: Ramirez told me about the Horsemen.  He thought Kaspian and Silas were dead.  By the
time I was training you I thought Kronos was gone.  That left Methos.  Ramirez told me I
could trust Methos. (He shrugs.) I figured there was no point in mentioning it.  Methos had
moved on.  He was no longer one of the Horsemen.  Then I heard through the grapevine that
       you killed Kronos.

Siobhan: (to Methos)You knew that he knew, didn't you?

Methos: (smiles)  I suspected.  Then this morning Connor said Ramirez had asked a favour of
        him.

Duncan: And that was?

Connor: That if I ever met Methos to tell him I would help protect the Angel if it was needed.
He wouldn't explain beyond that.  Just that it was important to him.

(Connor watches Siobhan closely.  Duncan is confused.  Siobhan's eyes tear up.)

Siobhan: (softly)  Me. He wanted to make sure I would be okay.  He and Da always called me
that, Angel. Ramirez left not long after my first death.  I was in the convent with Shannon
then.  He was worried what would happen if I ever left.  (Smiles at Connor.) Thank you,
        Connor.

Connor: Heh heh.  If I had known what it meant I might have tracked Methos down sooner.

Methos: (Rolling his eyes.)Like I'd have let you near her.  What was Ramirez thinking?

Connor: (grinning)  That you might need some help protecting her, old man.

Methos: Great.  And who was going to help me protect her from you?

Connor: (Eyes twinkling.)  Who said she would have wanted to be protected?

Siobhan: Excuse me, do I get any say in this?

Connor: (Laughing)NO!

Methos: (Serious) NO!

Siobhan: (Shaking her head.) So, can we get back to the problem at hand now?

Duncan: I think I should call Joe and get him to poke around.  Maybe somebody has heard about
an Immortal claiming to be one of the Horsemen.

Siobhan: He also said that Amanda and Siobhan were just the beginning.  Maybe we should get
in touch with our known associates and warn them.  Just in case they're planning to pick our
friends off one at a time.  Now that they know for certain that you two (gestures at Duncan
and Connor.) are involved they may include the people you care about as well.

Connor: Good idea.  I have a phone up here and one in the shop.  We can get started.

Methos: Duncan and I both have cell phones.  That will speed it up.

(Connor nods.  He and Duncan head for the elevator, Duncan already dialing.  Methos pulls out his phone and leaves the room.  Siobhan reaches for the one beside her.)
